Supercharged Science ~ REVIEW

Kaden and I were given a one-year subscription to the e-Science Homeschool Science Curriculum for all levels K-12.  This was my first experience with Supercharged Science from e-Science Homeschool Science Curriculum and I can't wait to share it with you below.

Recently we have enjoyed using it in place of our science curriculum.  It's geared for all levels and conveniently is organized online by grade level or topics.  We went by topics because that just works best for us, but I appreciate that they offer a  choice.  I noticed right away that this program was packed full of challenging information, engaging video material and exciting experiments.  It works amazingly well for Kaden because there is no huge textbook to read through and highlight before getting to the fun stuff.  If you want to learn like us by topics, you will find lessons that are geared for multiple grade levels.  If you plan to go by grade level, it will group similar topics together and makes it easier for you to plan out a whole grade level year.  However you decide to use it, the content is the same, now let me tell you how we used it.

First of all we would decide what topic for instance Unit 2 Motion.   On Sunday I pull it up, check the shopping list, experiments and print out a few things to be ready for the week.  A lot of printing can be saved by viewing online, which I do.  I have Kaden keep everything in a notebook and this helps with his handwriting.

Every unit has a list located on the side like this one in Unit 2.  It contains all the links needed for that unit, an experiment materials shopping list for the unit, videos, experiments and exercises.  Perfectly located and made staying organized actually easy.

We start out reading the intro and scientific concepts.  Then sit back to watch the main video lead by Aurora Lipper, who is a scientist in real life .  These are so packed with excitement and a brief intro to what we are about to experience in the following unit.

And of course the best part is the experiments.  They start out with a list of videos.  You click the one you want and begin reading the information.  The first one in this unit was called Chicken and the Clam.  With two cans of soup you are able to demonstrate inertia.   After making your hypothesis of which can will make it down the ramp first you watch the video and try yourself.  Then follow up with questions and deeper learning.  I love that for older more advanced students there is a special addition so there is more of a challenge.  Kaden always had to look at both of them so he wouldn't miss out.

Rock ans Gem hunting and classification

Here is a quick look at a few of his favorite things we did together.  Not pictured is our crystals we started and the huge moon blob explosion.  :)

fossil making
Bridge building
Built a trebuchet and pestered the dogs with it.

Found a hand full of worms and examined them.

Kaden's favorite...the rubber egg!

More fossils

So, what did I think?  I think that this is a quality program that I wish I had known about with my two oldest kiddos.  This fits into any learning or teaching style your family has.  If you have multiple children, children of all ages or just one kiddo this program will work almost effortlessly.  Yes, there are things to gather for projects and some printing.  But, the memories and experience of learning together is worth a little leg work.  Not to mention your kid's are being taught by a real Scientist....this Mom is not that good! :)  We will be using this during the summer months too, this is a great way to keep the learning going.
