Once again I was able to Review another product for A+ Interactive Math (by A+ TutorSoft Inc.) I have used both their Adaptive Math Curriculum Online and Mini-Math Courses before, you can read my experiences Here and Here. This time my experience was a lot different, not because of the program, just the natural progression of Autism. Math has always been my nemesis, so I appreciate any help I can get. We found this program very helpful when we used it with Mahala and Kaden a few years ago. This time we were able to use the Adaptive Math Curriculum Online with only Kaden. I was interested to see his improvements over the past few years.
The way this works is your student is given an assessment at the grade level of your choosing. This will test their knowledge in each major math concept within that specific grade level to determine where their skill level is at. If the child is not quite up to their appropriate grade level in skill, the program will design your student an individualized lesson plan for filling in the gaps seen in the assessment. The lesson plan includes everything they need to master the skills needed with video lessons, an interactive review, practice worksheets, automatic grading, tracking and a re-test. And the easy to read reports makes like a bit easier for us Moms.
Kaden logged in and clicked on the placement test. We decided to start at 5th grade. He actually worked at this same level before, but we have had some set backs recently this year academically. Once he clicked we were able to see all the areas that were included in the test. At first, I had Kaden doing the 5th grade level and it was no good....I was secretly afraid of that. He was very overwhelmed by the fact that each section had around 30 questions and they were timed. This stressed him out before even answering the very first question. And once you submit an answer there is no going back. After many tears and meltdowns we went down to the 4th grade level and he still struggled with the time and amount of problems. I just want to point out that the other times I Reviewed he did not have an issue. I believe it is because of the set backs he has had the past year. He has gone from doing Algebra at 8 years old to barely getting through 4th grade Math at 11.
The bright side is that I can see exactly where he is and what he needs to do. After the assessments are over and you look over the results screen that shows your score and what you missed, you can head over to the lessons.
We waited until he had a few assessments completed before we started the lessons. The individualized lessons are amazing. Once the lesson is completed they can move on to the questions and answers and retake the assessment if they want to. All of this Kaden can do independently and I can keep track of what he does on my parental dashboard. Super simple and besides the timed assessments it's really self paced and can easily be done for daily Math time.
This program can be used with up to 10 students in your household--and you can subscribe and pay monthly, quarterly, or yearly. You can also TRY 1 MONTH FOR FREE! You should also take a look at their Family Math Program too. It's a comprehensive course with video lessons, interactive review, worksheets, quizzes/tests and more for all grade levels. And includes automatic grading and tracking, so it's a real time saver and blessing.
