Have you heard of this Series before, the Zodiac books by Romina Russell? I had not before I was invited to join this awesome Rereadathon. Today I am going to share quickly the first book in the Series and a few crafty projects I have in mind to do while I jump in on this Astrological Adventure. Grab some paint, a glue gun and a tall coffee and follow along with me.
About the Book
Title: Zodiac
Author: Romina Russell
Publisher: Razorbill
Release Date: December 9, 2014
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Romance
At the dawn of time, there were 13 Houses in the Zodiac Galaxy. Now only 12 remain….
Rhoma Grace is a 16-year-old student from House
Cancer with an unusual way of reading the stars. While her classmates
use measurements to make accurate astrological predictions, Rho can’t
solve for ‘x’ to save her life—so instead, she looks up at the night sky
and makes up stories.
When a violent blast strikes the moons of Cancer,
sending its ocean planet off-kilter and killing thousands of
citizens—including its beloved Guardian—Rho is more surprised than
anyone when she is named the House’s new leader. But, a true Cancrian
who loves her home fiercely and will protect her people no matter what,
Rho accepts.
Then, when more Houses fall victim to freak
weather catastrophes, Rho starts seeing a pattern in the stars. She
suspects Ophiuchus—the exiled 13th Guardian of Zodiac legend—has
returned to exact his revenge across the Galaxy. Now Rho—along with
Hysan Dax, a young envoy from House Libra, and Mathias, her guide and a
member of her Royal Guard—must travel through the Zodiac to warn the
other Guardians.
But who will believe anything this young novice
says? Whom can Rho trust in a universe defined by differences? And how
can she convince twelve worlds to unite as one Zodiac?
Embark on a dazzling journey with ZODIAC,
the first novel in an epic sci-fi-meets-high-fantasy series set in a
galaxy inspired by the astrological signs.
This book has me up over the moon, I have been reading so many picture books and History books lately I have forgotten about reading a little adventure for just Mom. I have always been so fascinated with space, the stars and the signs. My Dad was a Navigator on a huge Navy ship back in WWII. Always consulting the stars and a star map before each journey out. He passed his love for the night sky down to me. I normally do not consider myself a lover of Science fiction. But, the Author created such a vivid scene from the get go. I could see myself gliding out in the deep galactic blue on my own Strider. And then of course all "deep space" broke loose within the first few pages.... I was hooked and now I can't seem to put the book down and my Family is wondering if I will ever make dinner again. :O I don't want to spoil the book for you, but it has a little bit of everything, Suspense, a little Love, a character to Loathe and a whole lot of Action.... you better make sure the edge of your seat is comfy. ;)
I might not be making dinner, but I did start a Pinterest Board for all kinds of goodies to make in Celebration of this Rereadathon. And we even started a Space Unit Study with Kaden, if you are interest in that tap Here. I created a nice little Ocean Zen garden inspired by the main Character, Rho's Cancerian planet. I just added some ocean blue stones and some sea glass from Northern CA in a tin filled with Beach sand from TX. Found these Cancerian Blue starfish at a craft store....made me think of Rho's Mother's eyes.
