The Hamelin Stoop Series ~ REVIEW

https://schoolhousereviewcrew.com/wp-content/uploads/Hamelin-STOOP-logo.png

We read a ton here in our home and no book is turned away on most cases.  But, we do tend to favor middle grade books for personal reading.  Honestly this next series I'm sharing with you was one of my new favorites I've read in awhile.  I'm talking about the first two books in The Hamelin Stoop Series from 12 Gates Publishing.

I have to say that a lot of books in this genre are what I would consider not appropriate for Kaden.  He will stop reading immediately if he feels it is leading somewhere he knows is wrong.  Just the other day he handed a book back to me because a character took the Lord's name in vain.  When we read out loud together I can skip over parts, but he reads independently a lot so I was thrilled to run across this new series for him.

Hamelin Stoop
The Eagle, The Cave, and the Footbridge (Book 1)
The Lost Princess and the Jewel of Periluna (Book 2)
Both books are written by Robert B. Sloan.

The series starts out at an orphanage in Texas.....a little baby was dropped off  in a crate by his parents because they were desperate to keep him safe.  They loved him very much.  The staff decided to adopt him and named him Hamelin Stoop.  It was funny to see Kaden's reaction when Hamelin was a little boy going on little adventures and getting into trouble.  It was also sad to see him go through the loss of friends that would leave the orphanage.  Through the years life is hard for the little guy, but consistent.  Same thing day in and day out, until he was in second grade...things changed.  That was the year his 8th birthday was forgotten and he decided to run away.  Feeling unloved and forgotten he runs far away and later is guided by a Great Eagle to a cave.  The Great Eagle reveals his true identity and the secret lives of his parents.

There is a part where Kaden and I were both on the edge of our seat.  The Great Eagle expects Hamlin to cross this tiny footbridge that's above total darkness with courage and faith to get to the other side.  The other side is the mystery of the unknown, his parents, the Atrium of the Worlds and beyond.  Did he make it across?  Hmmmm well maybe, there is another book already so yes. :)  But, the process was a nail-bitter and a lot was learned during the struggle.  The emphasis on having faith, walking in faith is real in this book.

Book 2 we have only just began reading, but so far it picks up right where we left in book 1.  So far I feel that Hamelin is going to need a lot of patience...I know the dreaded P word.  We are on chapter 5, entitled The forest of fears.  The forest is dark and that is one of his biggest fears.  He has just met Lars and realizes he has to help him find the light to save Lars' people.  I can't wait to read more!

If your kiddo likes mystery, ancient myths, adventure or fantasy reads this will be a favorite for them.  And the big bonus is that it's clean, no mushy love stories or inappropriate talk.  Just an amazing story that can be enjoyed by all ages.  I look forward to the rest of the series.
