Stopmotion Explosion ~ Review

I have never really been into making videos or editing photos, but Mahala has always had an interest in this.  I was excited to share with her that we were chosen to review the Stop Motion Animation Kit from Stopmotion Explosion.  I figured both her and Kaden would enjoy working together on this project.  The Kit is a wonderful independent activity for kids 13 and older but, younger kiddos will probably need some parental or older sibling assistance. We have had a fun couple of weeks with this Kit, let me tell you all about it.

The Stop Motion Animation Kit was designed so that even a brand new beginner could pick it up and create movie magic.  Good news for me!!
Here is what you get with your Kit...
~1080p HD video camera with internal microphone, Full control of exposure, color, and white balance, 360º rotating head, manual focus, with1920 x 1080 image resolution.  Mahala wanted me to express how amazing the camera was.  She was so impressed with the quality!  She's the photographer in the family and couldn't stop raving about it. :)
~290+ page Stopmotion Explosion book and a short quick start guide.

Another thing that is so impressive with this Kit is that unlike other programs, you do not need to have a CD-Rom to get the software.  Because  even though the Kit comes with one, it's also available as a download from their site...which means no lost or broken CDs in your future to ruin your movie making plans! :)  If you have Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10 and OS X 7.5+  then you are go to go.  You can also enjoy the iOS app and create Stop-motion videos everywhere you go!

I know I mentioned that the Stopmotion Explosion book provides all the instruction you need to get started, but it also spends a lot of the book demonstrating different ways to bring your story to life with cool sound effects, props and so forth with step-by-step instruction.  Mahala said there are countless tips, links to other resources and so much more.

Mahala thought that even though she had never done this type of filming before she was armed with everything she needed and felt confident in putting the project together.  Her and Kaden are still working on a series of videos right now and with each take their confidence is soaring and their outtakes are lessening. :)  We have a few videos to share, but Mahala thought that it was important in this review to show that you don't need fancy lights or prompts to begin this stop-motion adventure.  Kaden was a little worried, because he has no photo experience or video makings....he said, "Mom, I don't even own a phone!" No worries my child!  Here is a look at their very first video.  All they used was a poster board, homemade play dough, a single lego man and a sheet of paper.   They had the best time creating their first video..... Sweet Dreams.

So, what did we think?  We loved it, the kids said it was the best thing they had ever reviewed.  They have a running list of ideas for videos to make on our next camping trip and our beach trip in the summer.  I think this is a wonderful sibling activity.  And it gets kids thinking creatively, it helps with motor skills, cultivates patience and team work.  But, don't just take my word for it, head down below and see what other Reviewers had to say about this awesome Kit.
