The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls ~ REVIEW

I'm always looking for a good read for Kaden.  He goes through so many books every single month.  Earlier this month he was able to read the next two books from the series,The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls.  A while back we reviewed the first two books in the series.  WorthyKids, an imprint of Hachette Book Group was super generous and sent us The Great Escape (Book #3) and Journey to Jericho (Book #4)

If you read my last review about this series you may remember a little bit about it already.  It's geared for ages 6-9 and is considered Biblical fiction.  These books are great for young readers as well as older independent readers.  The story-line basically follows siblings Peter and Mary who are sent to stay with their Great Uncle, Solomon for a summer.  During their stay the kids  found ancient scrolls that their Great Uncle had discovered.  Once they opened the special seals to the scrolls they were instantly transported back in time to an important place in Biblical history.  It's not all fun and games as they experience these Biblical events, they must figure out the secret message before they can return home.

The Great Escape (Book #3)
Mary and Peter are ready for a new adventure, as they find themselves in the middle of an Egyptian desert.  While there they plunge themselves in the Nile River while racing for their lives to get away from a black panther.  Kaden loved the action and excitement as the siblings get rescued by a certain princess that may or may not be the Pharaoh's daughter...I'll let you read and find that out yourself. :)
While the two are staying in the palace they see Moses and Aaron begging for their people to be let go.  I have always been interested in this story as a kid.  My kids and I have read in in our Bibles many times, I like that in the back of this book you have scripture listed so you can go an actually read the story in the Bible.

That said it was enjoyable to read this story with Kaden.  His favorite part was the plagues of course.  Also the illustrations are nice and occur every few pages or so.  In this book Mary and Peter are right there as the waters are parting as they scramble to hold onto the scroll and figure out the message before the waters closed down on them.

 Journey to Jericho (Book #4)

While Peter was running around trying to find his sister they continued looking for their Great Uncle.  Once they found him they learned that he wasn't always an Archaeologist....he once was a Spy.  After learning and trying some of their Great Uncle's cool gadgets adventure called and Mary and Peter were off to The Promised Land.

I'm talking spies, hideouts in caves, a mysterious man in black and marching...lot's of marching around Jericho.  Did they discover the secret hidden within the scroll in time before the walls came tumbling down?  You will have to read and find out.  I asked Kaden what he liked best about this book and he said it was neat to read Peter's journal entries and how they used their Great Uncle's spy gadgets to get themselves and friends along the way out of some sticky situations, of course with God's help all along the way.

So, What did we think?  Just like before we truly enjoyed them and look forward to reading more Biblical adventure stories in the future.  These would make great Christmas gifts, birthday gifts and additions to anyone's library with or without "Secret Scrolls".
