Imagine...The Great Flood ~ REVIEW

We have been through the Bible backwards and forwards and lingering in the middle for many many hours.  Kaden enjoys the word of God and there are a few stories and people that he is reminded of often.  One being Noah, Kaden has always felt a special connection to Noah's story.  At first I thought it was because of the cool ark or the animals, but he said it was the lesson he learned about having the willingness to obey without questioning the Lord's request.  Noah wasn't a perfect man and God still used him.  We are all here to build our own ark willingly no matter what the world says about it.

Kaden knows the story of Noah very well, but recently we were able to look at it in a different way, through the eyes of 10 year old Corey Max.  The book called, Imagine...The Great Flood by Matt Koceich from Barbour Publishing has been our family read for the past few nights.

This Bible adventure is geared for kiddos ages 8-12 and is the first book in a new Christian Fiction for kids series that will bring some of the most epic stories in the Bible to life as they allow you to imagine what it would be like if you were actually there during the event.

The character Corey is having a little bit of a struggle as he has learned that his family will need to move to another state.  He is heart broken and frustrated, but he finds himself dressed in a robe and face to face with a lion after he hits his head on a rock while chasing his dog Molly.  He realizes he is smack dab in the middle of Mesopotamia just days before The Great Flood.

So, what did we think?  I think overall this is a nice Biblical Fiction book for kids, the key word here is Fiction.  There were a few things that I was not expecting.  There were a few things added for flare that are not in conjunction with the Bible story of Noah.  But, even with that I personally was still ok to have Kaden read it.  But, he came to me several times and was not thrilled with the additions to the story.  But, once I explained the fiction part and the purpose of the book he continued reading.  He is hypersensitive on what he reads, always has been.  His exact words to me was, "this is not for teaching Momma, just entertainment".  Yes, just entertainment and that it does.  It is filled with excitement and transforms you to a time period that is so unlike our modern today life.  There is a character Elizar who is like a wizard.  We personally do not have a problem with wizards, but in the story of Noah it took a few conversations of reassurance for Kaden to completely be comfortable with it.  Mind you he is on the Spectrum, so rules and literal is his middle name. :)

Would we read the other books in this series?  Absolutely we would, if only to have these great conversations with my kiddo and to be entertained.  He was totally capable of reading this on his own and he did, but we also read parts together, read as a family and even referenced our Bibles a few times.  Overall, this would make a great gift for a child that already knows their Bible, at least the story of Noah well before.  We look forward to the next book in this series, Imagine...The Ten Plagues in March 2018.
