Progeny Press~ REVIEW

I'm happy to be Reviewing another product from Progeny Press, The Green Book - eGuide.   We already owned The Green Book which is geared for grades 3-5, but I enjoyed reading every minute of it... so did Kaden.  We like the whole Sci-Fi scene and this one delivered without a lot of craziness, kind of low key. I was introduced to Progeny Press several years ago, they are an amazing company that provides Study Guides for Literature, from a Christian Perspective. They have Study Guides for over 100 different books, from the Classics to the popular novels you see everywhere today.  Their prices are affordable for what you get and I have always been really impressed with the Quality of each of the products we have ever used.

This time we were given a digital download that I could have printed out.  But, this particular study guide is interactive, which means I was able to have Kaden type right into the PDF.  This is such a convenient feature and saves on paper and paper mess all over my desk.  Not all of the Literature Study Guides have that option, but a lot of them do.  Huge Bonus Points for having that capability!
Here are just a few of the things we learned with this study guide.
  • Author Biography
  • Moral Lessons and Character Values
  • Vocabulary
  • Questions
  • Discussion and Critical Thinking Questions
  • Optional Activities and Reading
  • Digging Deeper Section
  • Supplemental Resources
Kaden and I sat down and literally read the book in one day thanks to a hammock, unlimited lemonade and a good umbrella.  The story follows Pattie and her family and friends as they board a second best spaceship trying to escape a dying Earth.  Finally they make it to their new home on a distant planet the youngest member officially names Shine.  While they learn how to live in this new place they soon discover that they are in serious trouble. Pattie decides to record a very dangerous journey and their new life on this planet in her little green book.  Can you imagine blades of grass that are like pieces of glass?  Or what about trees that are hard as rock, well it was their new reality.

After a long day of reading we basically spent the next several days going through the study guide.  We just went right down the list working through the questions on the computer and then did most of the discussion questions orally and started looking at additional reading options.

Once again we have been pleased with this guide as we have in the past.  What I love the most is that they are written with a Christian perspective and encourages your child to look to the Bible.  Kaden loved all the activities like growing crystals with Epson salt, making soft flat bread, how to grow your own survival garden and researching fire opals.  Doing all these fun extras really stretch out the reading experience and allows you to create many fun memories.
