I Know It ~ REVIEW

http://schoolhousereviewcrew.com/wp-content/uploads/iknowit-ad-1200px.jpg

Kaden is so picky when it comes to math, he gets frustrated easily.  Recently we have been using an online math program that he simply adores called I Know It.  It's easy to use and he gets to sharpen up in some areas that he hasn't mastered just yet.  This supplement math program is from the creators of SuperTeacherWorksheets.com, you can see my reviews for them here and here.  This online practice math program is the perfect way for your child to practice their math skills.  For this review we were given the family membership, which is good for one parent and up to four children.  You can head over and check out their pricing for this online subscription now and there is also a 60-day trial subscription for teachers and homeschoolers!

Letting your Light Shine

Here s a verse that has been on my heart and mind......

*Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

A city on a hill cannot be hidden.... that is so true, and who lights a lamp to only cover it up under a bowl?  Makes absolutely no sense to me.  And yet I do it, I make a choice every single day.  Most days I'm not proud of my choices.  I have to ask myself...who is my flame representing when I speak to my family?  Who do I illuminate on social media?  What are my efforts for in this life?  Unstable fame and recognition here on earth or everlasting companionship and life in the hereafter?  It's a no brainier to me in theory, but It's the commitment and the action that makes my human side crumble in defeat most days.  Which is why every single day I have to set my intention, my heart and my mind on letting my light shine for the Lord.  Each day is a new chance to do better then the day before.
Who does your light shine for today?

The Captain Sun Adventures ~REVIEW

http://schoolhousereviewcrew.com/wp-content/uploads/Rescue-Me-what-superheroes-can-teach-us-about-the-power-of-faith.jpg

We just love books over here and since it's the beginning of a new school year I have been adding to our library.  Recently we were able to read the first book in a new series called, Rescue Me! What Superheroes Can Teach Us About the Power of Faith from The Captain Sun Adventures.  I thought this series would be super neat because it's part comic book and part devotional.  How awesome to pair these two together and you can read out loud to younger children or your independent readers can read and then discuss the devotions after reading it with you.

A Quick little prayer for you today.....
Dear Heavenly Father,
When people see me…..I want them to see You. Please Lord give me the courage I need to bring Your light out into the open, and reflect Your goodness. I praise You Lord and give You all the glory.

Picta Dicta Natural World ~ REVIEW

http://schoolhousereviewcrew.com/wp-content/uploads/Natural-World.jpg
Recently we decided to try something totally out of our wheelhouse, Latin.  Actually, it is an interactive beginning Latin program from Roman Roads Media called Picta Dicta Natural World.
I wasn't really sure how Kaden was going to do with this program, given his learning abilities but I was curious to give it a try.  Roman Roads Media also has other interactive Latin programs as well,  Picta Dicta Vocabulary Builder and Fitting Words Classical Rhetoric (complete program).  I have tried programs before, but nothing online like this.

The Kingdom Files from Barbour Publishing ~ REVIEW

http://schoolhousereviewcrew.com/wp-content/uploads/The-Kingdom-Files.jpg
Kaden was able to bring a new biography series, called Kingdom Files from Barbour Publishing on our last camping trip.  The two we received to review was, Who Was Jonah? and Who Was Mary, Mother of Jesus?.
Kaden is a huge fan of non-fiction and reading the Bible, so this was absolutely perfect for him.

GrammarPlanet ~ Review

http://schoolhousereviewcrew.com/wp-content/uploads/GrammarPlanet-2.jpg
Who likes Grammar...raise your hand.  Not me, I'm not even sure I'm qualified to be writing this blog.  That said I'm sure there are many things my children need to learn and I have no idea where to even begin.  It's hard to sift through online programs and workbooks to find the right fit for each child.  These past few weeks we have been using a brand new online grammar program from GrammarPlanet and it's given be a bit of hope.  One of the neat things with this program is it's geared for ages 10 and up.  Not only can you use it with your kids, but you can also brush up on your own grammar skills.

I am Sacagawea~ REVIEW

We were super excited to receive one of the Newest books from the I am a Traveler Series from Penguin Young Readers. This whole Series is absolutely amazing and takes a very different approach to sharing the Biographies of people who have forever shaped and changed our world.  Kaden and I both thought that the graphics and slight comic book feel was very engaging.  I of course thought the extras like real photographs and timeline were handy since we used it in our homeschool.  I hope to eventually have the whole series for our homeschool library.  After reading and doing a few extra activities, we made a traditional fry bread for lunch and crafted an old Native American game that many tribes played together.  I have the instructions at the bottom if you would like to make a set of  this game on your own.
