My Beloved and My Friend
Growing up in Foster Care allowed me to observe many kinds of Family Units. Each Family had their own style of parenting and the Relationships of the Parents were equally just as different from one another. Growing up I knew the kind of Relationship I wanted, it was just like my Parents. My Mom and Dad were the Best of Friends. They shared the same interests and enjoyed each others company, you could feel their love when you walked into the room.
A few weeks ago I was given the Opportunity to Read and Review My Beloved and My Friend: How to Be Married to Your Best Friend Without Changing Spouses written by Hal and Melanie Young. They are also the Authors of the Popular book Raising Real Men, which I've heard Amazing things about. I was Anxious to read this Book, because I knew My Relationship with my Husband needed more then just the same old Band aid I've been using over and over for the past few years to keep it together.
We have been through many trials and tribulations in Our Marriage. Our Faith and Our Love for each other keep us together. After Reading this wonderful Marriage "toolbox" together with my Dear Hubby we can see that we don't lack "Love", we lack "Friendship". We have lost touch of one another. Instead of keeping Our heads down and doing the Daily Life thing, we need to Carve out Our Time. We need to Go back 16 years where it all started and rekindle the Friendship we Once had.
Has it worked?? I say it has and he will agree with me. We have let life get in the way and have forgotten to leave it at the front door. Now we sit a few minutes before dinner is served to catch up. We send an email or text during the day to just say Hi! We have been praying together, laughing more and taking the time to enjoy the smallest thing instead of only seeing the long "To Do" list on the fridge.
Every night after the kids went to bed we would read for about 15 minutes. We would then take turns highlighting what we thought was most important. We alternated who would go first each night. We would give each other privacy while one of us was highlighting the other would usually brush their teeth or continue getting ready for bed. Then the next day before we read again we went over what we thought was the most important from the day before. This was AMAZING for us, we truly found out so much about one another. We have decided to keep this book on the night stand as a reminder and for a quick reference when needed.
I Highly Recommend this book to Anyone who is Married, but only if You want to Truly be Best Friends!!! :) You don't have to Just take my Word....head on Over and Read what some of the other Bow of Bronze Launch Team Member's had to say!!
